Best Card Games to Play with Friends

Whether you are serious about games like poker or just want to have fun with young children during a game of Go Fish, card games can be exciting and very easy to learn. If there are just two players in the game, activities like Crazy Eights or War can be a fun way to pass the time. Bigger groups will enjoy the intensity and speed of card games like Slapjack and Speed. Each of these fun card games is a great choice for a group of friends:

Poker

This is the perhaps the best known card game in the world. It is a great choice to play with friends because it can be played at the basic level with no risk, or it can be elevated to an intense competition with gambling. To really set the atmosphere, a large poker table and chips will create a fun environment for a game of poker between friends. Although Texas Hold ‘Em is the most popular version of poker, there are several variations that players can choose from.

Slapjack

This card game is a simple and fun way to pass the time with any amount of players. The game is one based on speed and reflexes. Each player will flip over cards onto a pile one at a time and slap their hand on any jacks that pop up. The first person to obtain all of the cards by slapping the jacks will be pronounced the winner.

Rummy

This game is an increasingly popular one that can involve anywhere from two to six players in each game. Cards are played, or melded, in order to receive the highest number of points. Rummy is a card game based more on skill and luck of the draw than speed or reflexes.

Bridge

This card game has been a popular one for decades, although fewer and fewer people are familiar with the rules. It requires four players for each game and despite the complicated rules, it is a challenging game of skill that most people love as soon as they play it. While it is not the ideal game to play in a hurry, it will be a fascinating challenge that is certainly worth learning the rules for.

War

This simple game of cards is played between two people. Each player lays down one card at a time and the highest scoring card gets to keep the pair. The winner is the first person who can obtain all of the cards in the deck. This card game is very quick to learn and is a great choice for children or when you only have a few minutes to spare.

Go Fish

This card game is often skipped over because of its simplicity, but it is a fun and simple way to pass the time with friends. Children in particular love the ease of learning the rules. Since it is a basic card game, your chances of winning are based more on luck than on skill. It is ideal if you are playing with a range of ages and want to level the playing field.

Spoons

This card game is a thrilling and intense game to play with a large group. Cards and passed around at a fast pace and players pick and choose which cards to keep and which to pass along. The first person to hold four of a kind grabs a spoon in the middle of the game. The last person to realize the spoons have been taken is eliminated.
